https://newsroom.ibm.com/2018-10-28-IBM-To-Acquire-Red-Hat-Completely-Changing-The-Cloud-Landscape-And-Becoming-Worlds-1-Hybrid-Cloud-Providerso here's how this is going to play out: they're going to phase out licensing RHEL to other clouds, they're going to drop CentOS.it's been a nice industry, but this is another datapoint in favor of getting the fuck outta here

@kaniini ...while I can see them dropping CentOS for their own use, how do they end CentOS as a project?I guess I could see them taking certain Red Hat components closed source, but if they also extinguish all other cloud providers, I see CentOS itself becoming a RHEL fork and getting bolstered

@kaniini know the details on how they'll phase out non-IBM RHEL cloud licensing?

@kaniini@pleroma.site Probably going to be like a slightly less pernicious Sun/Oracle at the end of the day, people will find a way to adapt and move to different systems like they always do. Ironically, Oracle could actually be well poised to take advantage of selling their RHEL fork to other clouds in case Red Hat proper pulls out.
