       I'm a big fan of the thought and effort that went into the design concepts of the Sugar environment.

       Here are the human interface guidelines for Sugar: http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Human_Interface_GuidelinesA recommended read if you are at all interested in how people and computers interact.

       @djsundog I have an XO-1 and remain disappointed by itnot helped by the fact the thing is so pointlessly custom firmware wise, that is makes custom kernels, let alone other OSes a PITA

       @calvin yeahhhhh, the actual hardware is a disappointment on a few levels

       @djsundog I actually liked the hardware; the screen is by far one of the best I used (that said, just using existing HW would have been cheaper and fit the project goals just fine)the software is the real problem: Sugar failed to live up to expectations (like lispm like pause and debug from any applications) and was *lethargic*

       @djsundog (OLPC is what you get if you leave a project like "giving underprivileged children in developing countries computers for 'better education'" in the hands of the kind of engineers more interested in developing HW and libre SW than they are any form of plan to do with those computers, like a curriculum)

       @calvin @djsundog So far the closed-source world hasn't done much better, where parents fundraise for "iPad carts" that do nothing because the software is a bad fit/too expensive for teachers to buy and there are no resources to build custom stuff (a la pre-private MECC).

       @coryw @calvin @djsundog I got a turbo-rant about smartboards that I shouldn't emit in public.
