As Design Systems become more and more common place in the world of software, will FOSS projects or orgs even have any?

Mozilla, which is the rare FOSS that is on-point with UX and design, has one https://design.firefox.com/

Design Systems that have a11y as a core value are the best ones because they want the software to conform to the needs of their users. It is essential to have that software be adopted as wide as possible. As I’ve complained before, I don’t see such mindset in most FOSS projects. There is always chat about wishing FOSS had wider acceptance, but that won’t happen as long as the software forces the user to conform to the computer.

@ilovecomputers WhatThat is the opposite of what it does though. It allows you to chose what you want it to look like, if anything it's the other proprietary shit that forces you into one look

@Ocean22 it has clashed with every platform I run it on. It never feels native and yet chrome does a better job at it

@ilovecomputers Chrome doesn't play nice with my GTK shit either~ The problem is that firefox and chrome both have their own "modern" design and they just have that shit on by default. You can mess with firefox and get it looking really good tho

@Ocean22 most people don’t want to configure shit. Give me what I’m used to so I can get on my work done.FOSS can learn from fish or Spacemacs: start with config with best UX, but give me the freedom to customize. A simple principle to adopt

@ilovecomputers That is basically what the vast majority of the DEs doI don't want any of that though, I have a very specific way I want shit to be and I want to set it up just the way I like itAnyways firefox rice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LqTcaoXATc

@Ocean22 @ilovecomputers I actually really dislike software that goes for it's own look like what web browsers and Discord are doing. I kind of like the uniformity that GTK and similar libraries allow. I just want to edit my theme once in my DE's settings and be done with it without bothering with how themes work in every independent program.

@che5hire @ilovecomputers And then to add insult to injury all this software that does these modern theme shit ALL CHANGE THEIR SHIT after a year or two Each time you don't want the redesign, each time it's annoying and clashes with your riceAnd you just deal with it because fuck itAnd then in a little while they change it again and make it look worse, now everything is doing that windows 10 ugly box look. Great
