Nothing beats having residents of countries with multiparty systems demanding that I vote ONLY Democrat in this country because... uh, that's the best way to join the rest of the world, by standing behind a party which is actively hostile to multiparty systems.Fuck you, alleged "NZ Green." Seriously, just fuck you.

@amylsacks Many people (both in the US and abroad!) sincerely believe that Democrats are The Good People and Republicans are The Great Satan, and there are no other credible alternatives. It doesn't help that US media (that gets read/watched by not-right-leaning people anyway) is overwhelmingly so-called liberal.I used to be one of those people, until I came here and left my university's bubble. :-)

@sajith Right. If all you're getting is NPR, MSNBC, etc. of course you're going to parrot their bullshit. It just drives me up the wall when people who purport to be part of a world party can't take five minutes to see past this shit, and past their own nose. They're grown-ass adults and they ought to start behaving like it.

@amylsacks I have come to appreciate that those things happens because of what's called cognitive distortions in Psychology. Seems that we're seeing exaggerated effects of cognitive distortions because of the current political climate. We are all mere humans and as such not very rational and tend to be quite tribal. We just pick a side and ex post facto rationalize in favor of our tribe. :-)

@amylsacks Probably? I wouldn't know! I haven't lived in the US for a decade by now. And I have started paying closer attention in the past couple of years. :-) I read about cognitive distortions in "The Coddling of the American Mind", in which the authors note some disturbing trends from recent years.https://www.thecoddling.comThat book, and "The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion" makes some excellent reading.
