its funny how so many people pronounced 'moog' incorrectly they made a synthesizer called the 'moog rogue' and even then, people still misread it as 'moog rouge'

@jk See also: Ibanez. Why do people pronounce it "Eye-buh-nez?"I'm still not sure whether that's the pronunciation the company itself uses, but wasn't it originally a Spanish company? And then a Japanese company? On what planet does that pronunciation make sense?

@deserthag i've always said "eye-buh-nez" because if someone asked me, a british english speaker, to write "eye-buh-nez" i'd write it as "ibanez" or "ibunez" or something. i guess. also thats what everybody i've ever heard say it says!!! except for one person, my dad, who pronounces it as "ee-BAN-eth", which is probably also incorrect

@deserthag i think i have a kind of revulsion to when somebody is speaking one language in a specific accent and then drops out of that accent entirely to pronounce one word in a different language and then drops back in, it always seemed pretentious and i think most people i know avoid doing it, even if they know the correct pronunciation/tone. Maybe since Ibanez is just outside of the "could plausibly sound english" threshold none of my english-speaking friends bother even if they do know how

@jk Huh. Apparently my grasp on the history of Ibanez was from a game of telephone, too, because it was originally a Japanese company making Spanish style guitars. So the pronunciation could just be weird there from language barrier telephone a couple times over. haha

@jk I totally understand that. I make an effort to pronounce things correctly within my own accent, but that's mostly because I know I'm going to butcher most other languages either way, but if I try to drop into the "proper" accent I risk getting into properly offensive territory. haha
