@Sacchan @OldBrushNewPaper @hummingrain I don't specifically recall whether/how often manure (in particular) comes up, but Tamora Pierce has an above-average inclusion of the less dramatic things and has several books with plant-mages who maintain gardens, so I would be unsurprised to find that there's at least one mention.
