Someone asked me if there were an alternative to "Succubus" and "Incubus" since those have been used as gendered terms a lotI propose the use of Lilim (singular) / Lilin (plural), which in Hebrew legends was used both for children of Lilith and for Succubi and Incubi in other legends interchangeably.

@_ is this related to that post about succubus/incubus' word roots not being about gender but instead about whether the demon was a top or a bottom?

@_ so Im gonna post some alternatives but first is gonna be my tearing apart of the words to bury a later ledein-cubare is latin âto lie onâ or âupon the sleeperâ or even âforced upon during sleepâ (incubo in italian is still the word for nightmare as itâs something that descends on the sleeper) and sub-cubare is âto lie underâ or âas the sleeper sleepsâ (from whence succubus comes) or even âlain with during sleepâ

@_ In my head cannon I just assumed these could change into whatever shape they wanted when travelling the mortal hyperplane. So they could transform into whatever your active or subconscious mind sexually desired. Since they feed on your sexual energy they might as well get the biggest rise out of you as possible (pun intended, sorry not sorry)

@_ as a result the application of ablative prepositions can be extrapolated giving the following -cubo words:excubo - emerging out of sleep, âin your dreamsâ, lit from lying down/sleeping or away from ones bed. Dreamy or unattainablesinecubo - without sleep. Poetic implications of mania, or without you I cannot sleep. Probably not good outside of poeticsabcubo - similar but more generic to excubo, but more âafterâ from than âout ofâ from. A slight distinction

@_ (and now, giving -cubus instead of -cubo for no reason other than anglicization)procubus - a being that generates a desire to sleep with or a soporific that generates a desire to sleep. Morpheus-type dream implicationsdecubus - similar to abcubus/excubus but more âaboutâ like exists around sleep. idk& most importantly:cumcubus - most like Lillith imo, one who/to lie/sleep-with. To create dreams together. One to recline with. comes to you in dream/sleep as an equal

@_ It is tricky: Ink and Suk are seen as gendered.Latin and Aramaic both echo with underlying binary metaphysics.Asura is morally and sexually neutral.
