In the time it took you to read this toot, planet Earth lost over 200 trees as over 3 acres of forest were destroyed. 😔🌳

Forests are some of Earth's greatest centres of biodiversity, as well as being potent carbon sinks. These are how the planet stabilises its own climate, counteracting sudden changes, while allowing gradual variations.Sadly, deforestation means that as well as filling the atmosphere with carbon dioxide, we're also removing the planet's natural means of fixing things.

In fact, humans have filled the atmosphere with so much carbon dioxide that, by some estimates, Earth no longer has enough land area to grow a sufficient number of trees to fix things. If you find that fact deeply concerning, you're not alone.https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/co2-atmosphere-planting-trees-oxygen-greenhouse-gas-carbon-dioxide-earth-scientists-climate-change-a8116856.html

This, incidentally, is why I research artificial photosynthesis to help this problem. I'm not trying to replace trees. I'm trying to learn from them and give them a helping hand. However, the more biomass Earth has actively decarbonising the atmosphere, the better. And if we all integrated more green into our living environments, that would help things a great deal.

We're actually capable, if we choose to, to increase the amount of biomass Earth is capable of growing. We just need to change how we organise our cities. Stop covering everything in concrete and allow trees to grow. This is the #solarpunk I signed up for. In the end, if we don't actually help the planet, everything else is irrelevant.

I mean, feel free to discuss anarchist governance or decentralisation or whatever as much as you want. But, just, try not to forget the point.Earth's biosphere doesn't care about how humans choose to organise themselves. Earth only cares that we stop doing damage and start taking better care of the environment. And ultimately, I agree with Earth. 🌍
