Stop and think for a moment. This place isn't owned by a corporation. We are all hanging out in a place free of corporate bs, invasive advertising and toxic unwillingness to tackle moderation in a mature way. Your feed is chronological, there is no engagement manipulation of post visibility.Yet that isn't exactly why you opened up mastodon/pleroma right this minute is it?You are checking up on the fediverse because it is a chill place to be and also all those things. How cool is that?

@Alonealastalovedalongthe Yes but let's hold on the masturbatory naval gazing for a moment and reflect on the fact that Mastodon is the same flawed socialization model as any other time-limited socialization method whereby its members scream into the void and hope for a response. Except in this case, instead of twitter's algorithm deciding what your reality looks like for you, you get to manufacture your own reality by deciding what you see. An improvement over forced tailored reality to be sure, but not a great step up for pulling humanity out of the quagmire of corporate brainwashing. If used correctly, Mastodon is similar to having a group of your tight-knit friends where there's no real threat and you can all just share your experiences openly. Used improperly, and it's yet another exchange-based mechanism derived from the same capitalistic principles as twitter—where one showboats in front of others on hot issues for social capital (ring any bells recently?). So yes, let's give ourselves one short pat on the back but no more.
