Haha yeah of course I love #infosec, I do my best to keep everything in my life as secure and private as I possibly can. I run Arch, of course, I have a VPN with a solid privacy policy, a Firebox on my home router, host my own server for email and web, oh and a debian phone. When shopping? Oh well I usually just tell alexa what to buy, I have one of them in every room. It even streams my live doorbell to my kindle if I tell it to! Isn't that cool?

@sophia Wish I was joking, but a friend experimented with Arduino stuff and found a wireless “smart” power switch that contains a freely-available controller which has been modified to control things via a server in China 🙃

@z0mbee yeah this is pretty much exactly what I'm talking about. My in-laws were looking into a doorbell with a live video feed. I thought they meant an actual feed but no it was a stream. I looked into it more and Jesus it is so insecure. It wouldn't take much to keep a eye on when you're in and out, routines etc

@sophia Holy crap, that’s terrifying. Luckily this brand use a bog standard NodeMCU so it’s easy to put the original safe firmware on it, but 99% of people are probably going to feed a huge behavioural database
