We need more examples of people using #ProtonMail, #FastMail, alt private and cool companies for hosting #email, after a year. Like, everyone compares them on paper, but who has been somewhere for a year or more, and what do you have to say about it?

@maiki I've been using protonmail for a while. No complaints. It's an email service that doesn't treat you like shit. You login and it shows you your emails, then you can send emails. What more could you want?

@OTheB Specifically, I'd like uptime and reliable deliverability. Those are the two important bits for me. How is the service on those accounts? ^_^

@maiki @OTheB Protonmail: They have had a couple of problems (DDoS attacks and stuff) and they handled them quite nicely and they are very transparent. You can ask them and they help.I have my business email there. The only problem is they don't really use standard email protocols so you have to deal with custom stuff.

@ekaitz_zarraga @OTheB That's the kind of endorsement I was looking for. As a person that is also a small business owner, my personal and professional email is the same, but I don't want my income to be based on email hosted on a RPi at my house. Biz email hosting, FTW! ^_^

@maiki @OTheB I have that kind of setup too, and if your company grows you can use a multiaccount thing and assign new email addresses to other people in the company. You have to pay a little bit more but the price is not high.

@ekaitz_zarraga @maiki @OTheB I’ve been running https://mailinabox.email/ on Linode for years, and it’s been very reliable.I haven’t had any issues with deliverability, and downtime has been insignificant (reboots to apply updates, nothing that interrupts mail delivery). It requires a little admin, and you have to follow the directions to set it up right, but the docs are good.
