Pro tip: when writing software, make it actually do what it's supposed to rather than being completely fucking useless and doing nothing but annoying the shit out of the poor fucks that have to use it.

And aparrently if you take a slice of a byte[] it turns it into an Object[] because fuck you. It still writes it incorrectly as a byte[] anyway.Powershell's data types are fucking meaningless and if you want to do anything remotely useful with it you end up basically just writing C#. Fuck this job.

I'm the only person in the company that uses Linux, the only person that cares at all about making software simple and work well, the only person that cares about avoiding needless complexity, the only person that cares about privacy, and the only person cares about software freedom, so I'm in this shitty place where there is so much resentment for the crap I have to do but I can't vent to anyone without them thinking I'm nuts and not really taking it seriously.

Good: Compilers and Kernels and stuff are by far the most interesting kinds of software to me.Bad: Compilers and Kernels and stuff are by far the most complicated kinds of software to me.Why must it be this way damn it.

Consistent 75% packet loss.Only on my machine except for the 1 or 2 times a day the whole connection just yeets itself.Very much hope this isn't a hardware issue because I *really* don't want to be buying a new motherboard.

@mgrondin I'm concerned it might actually be the VPN. If I turn it off it starts working much better.Might have to mess with the settings, maybe point it at a different server or something. My work laptop's on the same one though and it doesn't complain.

@mgrondin Hmm, or maybe not? When I start it back up it doesn't complain either. I'm going to say my temporary solution will be to just restart the VPN whenever it craps itself and hope I don't need to do anything more complicated because networking stuff is the bane of my existence.

@sir @neauoire Will point out that I got caught out by that too. Think in my case it was more a "being a human" problem given we're really good at just not reading stuff that's right in front of us.

So this is great. If I put my pillows against the wall at the right end of my sofa bed and then pivot my right monitor, I can properly relax with my feet up and my keyboard on a tray on my lap.Only the one monitor reaches a good position, but fuck this is super comfy. I must do this more often.

Currently laughing far too much at: musical instruments but a different part stays still.Example 1: double bass. Bow is fixed in position, instrument is played by swinging it back and forth violently.Example 2: trombone. Slide is fixed in position, player rapidly leans forward and back.Example 3: timpani. Beaters are fixed in position, player picks up whole drum to hit it against beater.I wonder how much it would cost to commission an animator to make video out of this.

@duponin @climagic Indeed. Here are the repos for each though:nnn: https://github.com/jarun/nnnfff: https://github.com/dylanaraps/fffSomething else to consider (though I'm having to give this anecdotally from being in chat rooms with dylan), is that the nnn dev got *super* toxic about fff existing so if I was going to use either I'd probably use fff regardless.

@Gina That figure turns from really impressive to quite intimidating when I consider "this person could lift 2 of me"
