Looking at my failed worker request for following my pixelfed account via sidekiq and the error returned includes the url https://mastodon.dmrty.fr/inboxas do a number of other failures - not sure why that url would be returning an error and potentially preventing the follow between two of my own instances..

almost all of the worker retries have one of the following errors: Stoplight::Error::RedLight: Delivery failed for https://mastodon.dmrty.fr/inbox: https://mastodon.dmrty.fr/inbox

@fitheach I have a few of those errors too but I don't think they are related (but I don't know).. I have checked and no-one on my instance is being followed or is following anyone on the mastodon.dmrty.fr domain so not sure why almost every failure relates to that domain.

@fitheach I gather that it is related to one of the relays that my instance pushes to and probably not the underlying issue of why I can't follow my pixelfed account from my mastodon account.

@jk OK. Don't know anything of these servers. It was just because you posted the error from the log.Is this an error to do with particular instances or combinations of Mastodon/Pixelfed servers? Is there any such thing as known working configs for #Mastodon / #Pixelfed ?

@fitheach I think the error may have been a red herring and not related to the issues I'm having. There isn't yet a known working configs for pixelfed as it's still in alpha.. had to roll back to php 7.2 from 7.3 because the latter isn't supported so no help to resolve issues.Postgresql is also not supported but there seems to be more willingness to investigate issues with it.. may be down to both instances using the same IP address.. but mastodon\pleroma work fine together on the same.

@jk This page does suggest Postgres:https://pixelfed.github.io/docs/master/installation.htmland this one:https://gist.github.com/dansup/999de4577f864d1822d226b9ddd62ca0Both of those docs also say PHP 7.2+ which, to me, includes 7.3Don't you connect to DB using localhost, in which case public IP is irrelevant?Hate myself for saying this... have you tried the Docker image?https://hub.docker.com/r/tedomum/pixelfed

@fitheach Saw those but the main github page states that postgres isn't currently supported however there are open issue updates suggesting that it's in the roadmap. https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed"MySQL >= 5.7 (Postgres, MariaDB and sqlite are not supported)"https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/issues/775It works for the majority of functions but seems that it needs further attention for activitypubDansup himself replied to me on the pixelfed freenode channel to say that php 7.3 wasn't supported so he couldn't help and so I rolled back (and still experienced the same issues!)My DB is another VPS in the same DC using a private IP address.I did try docker but had the same issues and didn't want to add additional overhead to my multi-service VPS so uninstalled docker and plugged on the "hard" way. There is a new version due to be released soon, will try it and see what variety of issues I have after that 😆 @jk

@fitheach It's what I get for not having the patience to wait until an activitypub application is actually released before I deploy it.. have issues with my plume blog too but they are at lower on the priority list than pixelfed for me.@jk

@jk @jk Doesn't help with your photo reqs, but instead of Plume you could try WriteFreely (also AP).I managed an installation of WriteFreely, it was straightforward using this guide:https://writefreely.org/start

@fitheach Thanks. I had a look at write freely but initially it seems a little too minimalist for what I'm looking for.. not that I know at this stage whether or not plume is more configurable but it's definitely an option that I have on the backburner should my attempts to configure plume become too frustrating!@jk

@jk @jk Which things does Plume have that WriteFreely doesn't?Asking as much for my own knowledge.I found the WF web interface so simple, it was confusing. 😃

@fitheach I'm not sure as I haven't deployed or signed up to WF for comparison, but you can have multiple blogs per user and multiple instances per install.. though I am not sure if both of these ideas are going to make the final cut and I haven't played with them.. but I want to make some css manipulation to make the blog *mine* and I (possibly mis-)understood that this isn't possible with write-freely as it focuses on minimalism and readability.. but I could well be wrong.@jk

@jk @jk WF certainly supports multiple blogs. How does Plume separate multiple blogs per user?Unfortunately, when I didn't like the WriteFreely interface, I wiped the install.

@fitheach I've not spent a lot of time looking at it but essentially within your dashboard you can create additional blogs.. I haven't as of yet tried it, as I had been trying (and failing) to get it to federate with mastodon (a recurring theme)and within the admin panel there is the option (possibly unimplemented) to add additional instances.. but again I haven't looked into it.@jk

@jk @jk No, I meant how does Plume separate blogs from the user perspective. Is it:mydomain.org/user1mydomain.org/user2or is it:mydomain.org/user1/blog1mydomain.org/user1/blog2WF doesn't support one instance for multiple domains (at least currently):https://discuss.write.as/t/more-than-one-domain/140Although WF is very lightweight, so running multiple WF binaries might not be a problem.

@jk I'm a big fan of Postgresql myself, always use it when I have the choice. Are you constrained in which DB you can use?

@fitheach the constraints are purely self-imposed. I have a dedicated redis & postgresql server and I don't want to host a mysql\mariadb instance too.. I did when I ran a friendica node and even with an optimised DB it was too resource hungry.Life would be easier right now with my pixelfed instance if I'd gone with mysql but still, I'll stick to my guns and wait it out.

@jk Yeah, I know what you mean.I would have thought you could support hundreds of users before the DB became the problem. Is Federation the problem?

@fitheach It's to do with the DB structure by the looks of things, differences in data types and it's impacting the ability to federate - particularly with mastodon.. at least that's what I've gathered from the slivers of information I've managed to gleam from bug reports.. not getting anywhere at all with the freenode channel.
