So with the recent carpet bomb of #systemd exploits, Have #all considered an alternative?

@joel The number of alternatives is quite limited:- runit- openrc- 66Openrc works but it isn't the best. 66 is quite good and I haven't tried runit yet.

@danyspin97 @joelIt's also worth noting that an "alternative" isn't necessarily desirable, as direct competition with systemd would likely require adopting similar complexity. Runit, OpenRC, and S6-init all seem to be pretty good choices for a replacement init/service manager, but you've only got a handful of distros where such a switch is even feasible to do yourself.

@architect @joel 66 is supported by obarun and soon by exherbo (I am implementing it).runit is supported by devuan and void (afaik).Openrc by gentoo.Yea the numbers are really low, systemd takes the most part but I hope that by improving these systems, the percentage will get lower.(Note: I know that many other distro supports these systems, I have written the popular distros that I know use them.)

@danyspin97 OpenRC is the project I keep hearing about, although isn't it just the regular init on steroids? What is 66 like? (P.S. 66's SEO sucks)The Devuan project lists more. Without Systemd wiki lists every last thing.

@joel 66 is the best imho. It's s6/s6-rc with better service format and better tools to interact with it.I am writing a post about installation and first steps of 66 on exherbo, it will come out soon ^^

@joel I'll just stick to #Debian. The Debian devs know more than I do

@matt @hund Debian can apparently install without systemd according to the wiki.

@joel @matt Cool! :)There's also Devuan, a fork of Debian (stable) with OpenRC. Apparently Debian lost a lot of developers when they switched to Systemd and some of them them forked it and created Devuan. The name is a very weird fusion of the words "Debian" and "veteran UNIX admins".The distro is a lot better than the name though. :D

@hund @joel I prefer to stay as close to upstream as I can, so I'm gonna pass on Devuan. I prefer default Debian.
