happened on an old fashioned forum via google search for something today and really just impressed by how user friendly they are... you have an identity within the community on a particular topic, some categories and threads can be visible only to members, and further only to certain members... I wish all other ways of communicating were so straightforwardly handy

@coleoptera it's really disheartening that they're out of fashion, because they're much easier to both moderate and navigate than any social media, which makes both socializing and debating stronger.

@_ampersand yeah, facebook especially is so profoundly miserable because it's designed so everyone, co-workers, childhood friends, conservative grandparents, etc, can end up being notified about anything you're doing, life events, joke posts, political argument etc... it's horrifically useless

@coleoptera in socialist finance activism, the publications are on blogs (makes sense), the propaganda is on Twitter (ok I guess), and the internal debate is private FB groups (WHY WHY WHY)I'm effectively out of the loop cuz I shut down FB while applying for apartments

@coleoptera and for emphasis: being FB groups makes holding an actual, topic based discussion of ideas much harder than it needs to be. It's impossible to find old stuff, and nothing makes sense

@coleoptera Reddit and some archival imageboards seem to be the only places that still pretend to be forums.
