@Dayglochainsaw Somebody said this menu from a now-dead Brooklyn restaurant was extremely Achewood and I thought you should know.

@coleoptera it's really disheartening that they're out of fashion, because they're much easier to both moderate and navigate than any social media, which makes both socializing and debating stronger.

@coleoptera in socialist finance activism, the publications are on blogs (makes sense), the propaganda is on Twitter (ok I guess), and the internal debate is private FB groups (WHY WHY WHY)I'm effectively out of the loop cuz I shut down FB while applying for apartments

@coleoptera and for emphasis: being FB groups makes holding an actual, topic based discussion of ideas much harder than it needs to be. It's impossible to find old stuff, and nothing makes sense

Me, looking at Irish names at 14: These names are so frustrating, why couldn't my ancestors just use something close to the general phonetics of English?Me, 20 years later: I hate English, the Irish merely tore the mask off.

@sean @gazelle @johnrandom There was this sick ass meme for a few centuries of giant snails. Usually, jousting with human knights. Just snails, in your illuminated manuscript. Rad.

@gazelle @sean @johnrandom Just so that people know I'm not full of it:https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/why-were-medieval-knights-always-fighting-snails-1728888/I think the humor explanation is the most parsimonious. Sometimes people just draw things that are fun and funny!

@mu @Dayglochainsaw a few centuries the wrong way, black death as we think of it was mostly 1300s, though there were some minor outbreaks after

@hasya23 She said "Trans rights, no brainer, trans rights are civil rights are human rights" and then talked about trying to drag the US conversation about marginal tax rates to the left.

Centrists: why do young people like Sanders so much? They must be hot for white grandpaYoungsters: no it's his desire to redistribute wealth. We also like it when a young WOC says "every billionaire is a policy failure"Centrists: no those two can't be related they look nothing alike. No, we need to get O'Rourke to do a Fortnite dance, that's how we'll beat TrumpIt's not that they are too dim, they're actively choosing not to tell the truth because they want it to be false

@dankwraith The problem with that tech is that it doesn't let Our Lieges live in complete isolation from the rest of us.

@dankwraith The goofiest part of the whole tech to me is that all it REALLY does is eliminate paying drivers. Which is like, not that much.I was going to draw a comparison of # of drivers to some other field, but I can't get access to fucking BLS.gov right now fuck my life.

@dankwraith my dad's really into them, and he says like, 80% reduction in traffic fatalities, which seems maybe possible? If we solve seemingly near-fusion levels intractable engineering problems? And then roll out an incredibly expensive technology that people are culturally resistant to at like 80% penetration? So they'll really make a difference in about 200 years.

@kropotkhristian @alpine_thistle Pretty sure it's just a left-sounding buzzword. I get near-total pushback from any actual discussion of restorative justice. Outside a small core of prison abolitionists, no other leftists seem to treat it as anything other than random words with no implications for the real world, and that's really depressing.

@dankwraith @Dayglochainsaw @zoey America: greed, injustice, and brutality are so baked into human nature that it isn't worthwhile to even try to fight themAlso America: has to remind everybody to "look out for #1" a thousand times a day lest they spontaneously treat strangers well
