I actually thought 3 was okay, and I've heard this cut is much better so I guess I'm going in.

It's kind of impressive how the original Alien included a Trans character without much fuss because the creators couldn't imagine a futurism where we weren't just par for the course, bit by alien 3 there were penal colonies for YY chromosome "genetic supercriminals"

"I just want to say that I've taken a vow of celibacy that also includes women. Most of us have."Whole lot to unpack there. He's vowed not to fuck men (incidentally women too), but somehow a woman's presence is a big problem?

Huh. How influential was the funeral sequence on my young mind? How many times does I watch this as a kid and think about what it means to be meat?

The original Alien trilogy was kind of an arms race except the was only one competitor. It was Ripley and her balls just kept getting bigger. In Alien age was basically like everyone else but kept her cool. By 3 she's like "oh, you're a serial rapist? Well this lunch table is mine now, jesus boy."

I'm suddenly realizing how Alien 3 was the genesis of all 90s scifi, creating an arc that would eventually lead to the Chronicles of Riddick.

@ConfusedImp I feel like this leads inevitably to the question of who would win in a fight, Ripley or Riddick, and the answer is obviously Ripley but I'm pretty sure only Akira Toriyama could appropriately document it

@Decay I think in a battle between Ripley and Riddick the universe would inevitably fold, causing some crawling John Carpenter creature to emerge from the bowels of the earth (or whatever passes locally) forcing an uneasy alliance. There'd never be resolution because the sequel just doesn't look profitable.

@Decay I'm honestly on board for a movie that marries the franchises, it's just gotta get past Weaver and Diesel. Which are both fake ass names as I see them together.

@ConfusedImp I mean... Pitch Black and Riddick seem like they could take place in Alien's far future so it woke make sense

@Decay "is this a stand up fight, or just another bug hunt" implies that he's been party to both. Aliens are real, but the colonial marines are skeptical that such scary creatures could exist because no surviving teams have reported back.
