I like p2p platform but #ScuttleButt or #Peepeth stores the data permanently.is that avoidable? are similar p2p platform without "blockchain" storage? @xj9

@noorul probably not, but you don’t necessarily have to store all of the feeds you are interested in permanently. immutability makes certain difficult problems a lot easier to solve. out of order feeds are a fairly addition to ssb that makes it so you don’t have to fetch the full feed to validate messages, which is huge for limiting db size

@noorul the functional components for making that happen are there, but right now all of the clients cache everything permanently.

@xj9 I like the idea of #PeerTube↗️ #P2P↗️ contents seeded to peers yet one can author the contents centrally like editing

@noorul scuttlebutt intentionally doesn't work like that. specifically because it is intended to work offline. https://www.scuttlebutt.nz/concepts/gossip

@noorul scuttlebutt is basically your only option if you want to have a functional social network without big internet. the initial sync is heavy, but after that you don't even need internet to use it.about half the core dev team actually lives off grid.

@xj9 I understand that. I like the off-grid options.I am not minding massive data sync here. One issue is that I havent figure out the control to edit/delete the contents I authored.

@noorul nobody can edit or delete anything on ssb. there are some proposals for message versioning, but you can’t actually modify any message after the fact.
