i bought a pebble steel off ebay. in box, unopened, when i took it out the screen was tearing and the battery was dead (powers on when plugged in, but loses power instantly when unplugged and can't pair with a phone). thinking of wearing it anyway for laughs

@chr suuuck D: The Time ones are really nice tho, huuuge improvement in so many ways IMO. Slimmer, lighter, battery same if not better sometimes, and color display actually looks nice.

@ceralor @chr when I worked at best buy I almost impulse bought a time round like 3 times because they kept being really discounted right before pebble got bought... they were so thin... I don't like round watches though

@katastrophe @chr Pebble Time was easily one of the best watches I've ever had.

@drewcassidy (its not eink but a low power lcd of some kind, so it doesn't retain the state when unpowered)

@drewcassidy @chr It's a Sharp Memory LCD display. Each pixel has a capacitor that lets it maintain pixel state for a bit until the charge decays, allowing it to keep the image with minimum refreshes. It's *very* energy conservative on still pictures while still allowing you to do quick animations unlike eInk that'll kind of get fumbly if you try anything rapid. It's pretty cool and I'm surprised it's not more common: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmronCahqd8
