Ever notice how a lot of movies these days have a strong #ClimateChange plot device?

@uranther It isn't a particularly new thing either. Think Waterworld or AI: Artificial Intelligence. Even The Day After Tomorrow predated An Inconvenient Truth. Not to mention the latter cited a futurama episode on the topic.

@alcinnz @mookie I can't decide if it's meant to desensitize us or otherwise just prey on our fears for ratings.Like, you know what, let's just leave saving the planet to the heroes - I'm gonna sit here and eat my popcorn.

@uranther @mookie Well if they're meant to leave us saying "let's just leave saving the planet to the heroes", what would Kingsmen be then?We don't want to leave saving the world to Valentine, do we?

@alcinnz Never seen it. But much like the others, I am sure it depends on a brave few to save the world from certain destruction. No movie plot comes to mind that relies on global solidarity and the politicians to stand down from their hubris - if you know what I mean. Such a story must be unimaginable by the writers or otherwise deemed unacceptable by the big movie studios.@mookie

@uranther @mookie Well, in that movie the Kingsmen didn't do anything about saving the world from climate change. They just stopped a tech billionare with a lisp from addressing the problem by killing everyone off.And they went at it alone because they didn't know who to trust, at least amongst the people Valentine hadn't already locked up.

@uranther @mookie Yeah Hollywood doesn't seem to know how to tell those stories. They need at most a handful of heroes for us to relate to, and they have to do most of the work for the part of the story they tell.
