I don't believe that new technology is necessarily better than what came before, though neither do I believe older technology is necessarily better.I believe technologies should be judged on its own merits, rather than its age.Yet it seems that people who don't know better do judge tech (whether positively or negatively) based on its perceived age...

I can get excited about new tech, but I find its rarely the same tech which excites capitalists. Our interests aren't aligned!Yet capitalists seem to be in control of the zeitgeist, which deeply frustrates me!

There's a reason why the climate action has the saying "We don't need one person to do climate action perfectly, we need millions of people to do it imperfectly", just is there is for the anticapitalists saying "there is no ethical consumerism under capitalism".These are guards against these movements from becoming like far too much of the FOSS movement, where we become insular as we argue over who holds to our ideals the purest.Sigh...1/2

You know, I've once ended up defending the FSF against the "purity spiral" they inspire. I ended up resorting to saying "my ideals are purer than though's"!If we want to pull more people in, we need to meet them where they're at. And remember that none of us are pure!1.5/1.5 Fin!

@BrodieOnLinux Honestly, I don't pay too much attention to which I'm on. But there's one sluggish laptop I've attempted to use for which I find I must use Wayland! X11 being too slow.(Incidentally that laptop has a different use now)

@js You know, as someone who dislikes clientside JavaScript...To be consistent I also have to dislike clientside XSLT. They're both turing complete!(yes, the argument has been made about HTML/CSS)But yes: I do wish browsers would bother making RSS feeds look good by default! Again.

You know: I'm looking forward to a Wayland future! As someone who likes studying my operating system's code.Wayland's implementation is just so massively cleaner!I do hear accessibility complaints, but I think the way forward is for the Wayland devs to talk with some screenreader devs to find an approach they're both happy with. Hopefully that's already happening.

@Edent I've attended a couple of these, & in both cases I have been able to use my knowledge to frame myself as the optimistic one.But when I don't see the conclusions reflecting the discussions I heard... It doesn't encourage me to participate in others!
