For the second or third time today, the toilet upstairs clogged after use.Thankfully, and I'm not sure how, it spontaneously unclogged itself between the first and second flush. The plumbing in this house is terrible.Prophylactic plunging was executed, along with multiple buckets of water from the tub to ensure an unblocked pipe.Plunger is now resting in a bucket of bleach and hot water to disinfect both, mostly so the bucket can be used later when mopping the floor in the house (we don't have carpets). If I ever get around to starting a band, it should be called Prophylactic Plunging, I've been told.

@thegibson Bad vent pipe... got it. If and when the landlord does anything about it, I'll mention it to the plumber.

@drwho I mean, the plumber will probably know best... but what you are describing sounds like a blocked or collapsed vent pipe to me.

@thegibson Or, knowing this house, a capped stub of a vent pipe.

@drwho possible...We have one getting replaced right now... it explains a lot of the plumbing weirdness we've been through at this house.

@TheGibson @drwho We used to have vent pipes. I suspect that the horrible stench whenever it rains and there's low pressure would go away if someone had left them in.

@thegibson @drwho As if the supply side of plumbing wasn't evil enough (srsly, just don't do it). We've got a septic system with a clogged or collapsed drain field. Somehow someone is going to have to come up with the cash to get that dug up and sorted out. These are the things that make me wish I was capable of earning money, manual labor, or both.
