Trying out #NextCloud, kind of stoked about the possibility of self-hosted mail and docs and stuffhttps://github.com/nextcloud/mailHonestly, if I install it for the project I'm doing...I could also review it... 😑

@sean i really feel like a nextcloud with more stuff packaged in by default + preconfigured would be really useful to a lot of peopleat least, a communications-oriented release instead of a file-oriented release would be cool. email + xmpp + social. nextcloud could be the basis of a comms platform that way...

@trwnh Yeah, like a self-hosted Google Apps for a project or organization. But with LinkedIn / DropBox capabilities. 😎

@sean just the personal aspect alone would be really cool from a "own your communication" kind of view, imo. in that workflow, nextcloud's file management would be mostly targeted at dealing with attachments in email/chat/social

@trwnh Yeah, I totally agree. If I like it, I might just try to get off Google Apps completely...though the migration itself will come at a great cost.

@trwnh @sean That's very doable. At least I think it is!

@sean @trwnh At first, moving to Nextcloud was awkward and I still used Dropbox for sending things quickly to my phone and with certain clients I didn't want to deal with the hassle of migrating. I can't remember the last time I used Dropbox now. I think the last time I looked for something there the file dates were from 2016. You'll be one of us soon. One of us! One of us!

@sikkdays @sean personally i quit dropbox for google drive when google drive first launched, and it's still decent enough for what it is: free storage. idk if i'd put nextcloud in front of my file server tbh. but as its own thing? i'd like to play around

@sean Nextcloud has two email apps to choose from : Mail and Rainloop. Both are just a front-end. You'd still need a separate mail-server setup. Disroot.org uses Rainloop in their Nextcloud, so you could have a peek? imho Nextcloud is super great! 👍 It does have some cons. For example if speed is important for file copying and you have a lot of small files to copy, then Seafile is a better choice as sole Dropbox replacement. But - of course BYOS means you're in control of your data. #nextcloud

@seanTalking about projects, you should definitely try the Deck app as well: https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/deck

@bjoern Maybe using Univention could help some in configuring a comms and file sharing platform without worrying too much about the technicalities? @sean
