"That little tangerine bubble [(RSS)] has become a wistful symbol of defiance against a centralized web increasingly controlled by a handful of corporations, a web that hardly resembles the syndicated web of Werbach’s imagining."https://twobithistory.org/2018/12/18/rss.html

@alcinnz i'd love to see a resurgence or rebirth of rss syndication, since it really is useful and it's a good way to 1. keep track of what you need to read, 2. read distractionless, and 3. easily receive updates on blogs that interest youpeople need to see its potential again

@alcinnz Demise? I hope not. I recently went back to RSS and I love it.. and I hope others do the same. I don’t have to log into google for YouTube because I can get RSS feeds of channels I like. I’m doing Flickr pro because I can get RSS feeds of friends’ photos. And I’m starting to see not providing RSS as a scammy attempt to tie your audience to your platform so you can more easily exploit them (which it is).

@intherain @alcinnz Given the decline in the use of RSS, and the disincentive companies that want to lock you into their apps etc to have them, I'm surprised that so many places still support them.

@intherain Yeah, I find it surprisingly alive and well for how many eulogies it's received.I think I firmly believe that having better browser integration could've helped to have succeed better. All that really takes is a little bit of care. The implementation is not that hard at all, which I know because I've attempted it recently. Though the fracturing doesn't help. Also I think using the term "webfeed" over "RSS" would have scared fewer people off.

@alcinnz That article has been in my RSS feed aggregator for several days and I just got around to reading it yesterday, ironically :)
