joke: .docx files are acceptable broke: .odt files are preferred because they're an open standard and can be viewed with a FLOSS program with 100% Compatibility woke: .odt files aren't good enough because they exclude users who cannot (or don't want to) run libreoffice. plaintext should be usedbespoke: only ASCII characters should be used to maintain compatibility with legacy systems artichoke: if we move back to pencils and paper, no restrictions can ever applynew coke: communication is classist

@lynnesbian that was a rollercoaster. I was with you until ascii. Plaintext is the superior format.

@CornishRepublicanArmy sure thing, my love ❤️❤️❤️- docx is the format used by microsoft word. it's closed source and owned by microsoft, so spreading its usage is generally frowned upon by FLOSS nerds like myself- odt is an open alternative to docx. it does pretty much everything docx does, and it's an open standard, so anyone's allowed to implement and use it. this is a huge improvement over docx in terms of freedom, in both the libre (free like free speech) and gratis (free like free beer) sense- plaintext files is just, well, plain old text. no images, no formatting, no charts, just text. it's supported by every computer on earth.- ASCII is an outdated way of encoding text. there are only 127 ASCII characters, and only around 90 of them are printable, with the rest being invisible "control characters" that tell the computer to insert a new line, or beep, et cetera. using ASCII limits you to using only the latin alphabet, arabic numerals, and some punctuation. it's mostly fallen out of use, but some outdated systems might not support unicode (effectively ASCII's replacement), so using ASCII guarantees full compatibility.love you! ❤️
