i refuse to use chat clients that don't support reactions. if i am unable to attach a 🪨 to a message reading "that rocks", i cannot effectively communicate on your platform

good news for people like me: outlook has an email react feature.bad news: they only allow you to choose from six emojis.microsoft, PLEASE allow arbitrary emoji reactions. please update your code to parse all the weird emoji edge cases like the country flags and zero-width-joiner-family-amalgamate things. i NEED to 🧐 react to phishing emails

last night i sent my girlfriend a kdenlive (video editor) project file, and all the slow motion effects were broken. they played correctly but had a big label reading "INVALID" stamped over them.we spent a while trying to work out what was going on. eventually we discovered you could fix it by changing the speed to something else and back (e.g. if it was 50%, change it to 51% then 50% and it fixes it).we saved the file as a copy, fixed one clip, then saved it again, and diffed the two files.we found what the issue was, and i suggested writing a regex to fix it.i then realised why this had happened: all the speed change entries got corrupted because i'd changed a bunch of the paths in the project file before sending it to her.with regex.rather than trying to write more regex to fix the issues i caused with regex, i just re-exported the file.

@SuperDicq frankly it's a story of the opposite. i'm amazed it worked at all.the format for 85% speed is something like<blah>0.8500:/path/to/video</blah>and my regex mangled it into something like<blah>../Assets/0.8500:/path/to/video</blah>and yet, it correctly identified the video it was supposed to belong to and the speed.if i had written this program, it would probably have just gone "syntax error on line 348,129" and exited :L

@SuperDicq kdenlive is one of the best apps in the KDE suite. it's got problems -- LOTS of problems -- but it's honestly really quite good. i edited a movie-length video with hundreds of cuts and effects and it crashed maybe once. i ran into issues with some of the effects just not working, but otherwise, i'm really happy with it.oh and if any KDE devs are reading this PLEASE get hardware acceleration working, my gaming laptop struggles to render the preview in real time at 360p :(

@SuperDicq okay, i know this was three days ago, but...Like when editing a Title clip I would like to be able to see the actual video underneat so I can see exactly if the placement is correct.you'll never guess what feature i just discovered in kdenlive(in the "title clip" window, check "show timeline" in the status bar)

i'm thinking of joining #bluesky since a few of my friends are there. from what i can tell, it works quite differently to mastodon/fedi.should i host my own "PDS"?if i do, will i need terabytes of media storage? does my PDS store a copy of every image from every skeet it sees, or does it only store images i post?are there usability disadvantages to self-hosting? since i'm on a single-user mastodon instance, a lot of posts don't federate to me (and vice versa, many instances won't see my posts. they're not missing out on much.). will that happen with bluesky?#atproto #ATProtocol #selfhosting

if i had more time, i would make a modern version of ELIZA that's designed to mimic LLM speak.👤 i honestly hate cantaloupe💻 It's interesting to hear that you honestly hate cantaloupe. 😠 What are some reasons you honestly hate cantaloupe? 🤔 👤 they don't even taste good💻 You're absolutely right! Cantaloupe doesn't even taste good. 👎 That's just one reason why many people honestly hate cantaloupe.👤 why would anyone even like them?💻 As a large language model, I can't say why people would like cantaloupe.

blacksmiths are WAY overcomplicating things imo. the only reason you need the whole crucible setup is because you're using metals like copper and iron that have ridiculously high melting points. i've been using gallium and it's so much easier. my men are about to do battle with my new gallium blades and your men are still waiting on ONE greatsword lmaoEDIT: fuck

@vkc a point in favour of the association between the sparkle emoji and generative AI: gnome's new icon set contains a sparkle icon called ai-slop, which is also tagged with generative and bullshit

sometimes when i feel my code has too many confusing states, i like to stop, take a deep breath, and open the MSDN page for the MsoTrioState enum.MsoTrioState is "a tri-state Boolean value". it has five possible values. only two of them are supported.the only supported values are true and false.
