I hope that this is the last holiday season away from family and friends. Part of me is excited to wrap up this adventure to spend some time at home. It has been 3 years.

@neauoire I understand how you might feel. I've been a nomad for ~4 years. 2018 was the year when my girlfriend and I decided to settle down. My nomadic chapter was all about adventure, introspection, flexibility and building the foundation of what I wanted to become. Now my life is about focus, productivity and execution. I now have the time and the space to build on top of the foundations I established while living on the road. I wrote more about it on my blog. https://magoz.blog/starting-over/

@neauoire it certainly took me a while to understand that the decision of ending the nomadic adventure wasn't a surrender. That' was probably the most difficult part of the whole experience.

@magoz I had just started to writte down something along these lines. It's hard to explain to myself that settling down would NOT be a failure to preserve that flame that got me leaving in the first place.Yet, I'm not sure if I'm ready to settle down just yet. We've met a couple who would spend 6 months in one place, and six months in another. This sort of concession, I like, it might be just a way to escape having to choose any one option.

@magoz Reading the blog post reminded me of something else, in Marie Kondo's book, she always goes on-and-on about how cleaning up has to be done in a single sweep, cleaning up a bit each day does not work, she says. The way to defined starting over, reminded me of that sort of "tabula rasa".If you could tell yourself anything at the 2 years point, would it be something along the lines of "settling down does not mean giving up"?

@neauoire Is that flame the same? Or has it evolved? Are you still seeking the same things? Is living on a boat (or in any kind of nomadic style) depriving you from a key part of what would be your next stage?

@neauoire Our plan was to establish our "headquarters". I still travel quite much (I'm traveling to other countries for at least 10 days a month). The biggest change is to have a place where I can get back and store my belongings without having to carry them with me. We are still minimalists, but my working environment has drastically improved. From working from cafes, airports, etc, to having my own studio. The 6 months plan is totally feasible.

@neauoire yes, "settling down does not mean giving up" it's a great way of putting it together. Or like the current path leads to another path. It wasn't an "end" it was just a natural turn of the path. Settling down by itself has no connotations. It's not negative or positive. Removing the associated feelings from it helped a lot to deeply understand what I wanted.I think Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse has that message, which I really relate to.

@magoz Well, living on a boat has that. We carry our studio and our "nest" alongside, so the pull to settle is less strong.

@neauoire Living on a boat has to be pretty amazing! What do you think would make you feel it's time to settle?

@magoz We're not at that stage just yet, but I can see it in our future. Maybe we just need to spend time back with our families for a while before we take off again. I'm not sure .
