       throwback to the mid-90s, before Netscape became Mozilla, when by a series of bizarre flukes, for a couple of years Internet Explorer 5 for Mac was not just the best browser on MacOS by a mile, but also generally one of the better web browsers available

       @TMWReviews @theoutrider IE 5 was the standard for SOOOO LOOONNNGGG...It had like a solid 6-7 year run, then 6 after that... all started to fall apart by 7.

       @thegibson @TMWReviews IE5 for Mac is a completely different beast as well, with a different rendering engine (one that is much better and more standards-compliant than even IE6 on Windows was) and a bunch of good features that Netscape was missing (eg a good download manager that actually worked)and at the same time it was much more lightweight and faster than Netscape on MacOS
