i should probably mention that some fairly important simpsons characters are going to die in this. you might feel a little uncomfortable about that, especially homer's death, which i cried at when i first read it, because holy fuckthey try to play it for laughs, but, nope, that doesn't work

@lynnesbian HOLY SHIT. i loved the treehouse of horror compliations! it was the closet thing to underground comics I'd read at my tender age. After a while, they gave total freedom to the artists. the jokes were almost universally shit, but there was such messed up stuff there. It was an important part of my media consumption. It made me realize, "holy shit, you can do *anything you want* in comics." I was never a gorehound, but "bizarre and different" was so exciting

@lynnesbian they're borderline pornographic in a sexless way. Man, huge nostalgia happening. I'm not defending the quality, but exposing kids to that is fucked up/fantastic. My mom and dad bought me these every Christmas and I *still* hid them, getting this delight about learning this Forbidden Media. I would lock the doors and just stare at how different people drew things, and the absolute fucked-uppedness of seeing my beloved simpsons get mangled.

@lynnesbian I totally had the ones you posted, and though I hated the first one - corny, bad art, etc - I kept going back to Lisa's horrible death. I was one of those kids that identified with her and loved her and saw her as a ray of hope. I'm not gonna defend that, I grew up in the nineties.But it was so fucking horrifying. It hit me super emotionally and I was so shocked it got through the blandification machine that is bongo comics. A+, scarring moment
