LB: Like >15 years ago I took a genetics course in uni and I think it was a wonderful experience. This was right when the results of the human genome project were being published and the cost of sequencing was dropping like a stone. Our textbooks were full of nice, simple, narratives about how this all worked and in class the profs had to be all "actually, no".One big one was just how many genes humans have, my textbook said >100k and this had to be radically revised down to ~20k

I think maybe people don't realize how much of a revolution has taken place in molecular biology, it totally upended a lot of what everyone knew about how this all works.Anyways, I love biology stories that are all "you thought it worked like *this simple thing*? au contraire mon frère ..."
