Train travel is so much more civilized. Compared to flying its comfortable, cheap and significantly better for the environment. At least in Europe (and most of Asia, I believe). Back home in Canada, it's basically a luxury for rich people. Trains are super expensive for some reason. And, understandably, don't go nearly as many places.

@ink_slinger Arent they busy building expensive high speed trains to take over for the old overnight ones basically everywhere?From BCN to London costs me probably 20x more with train compared to flight.I would love it if there were more overnighters with a sane price though.

@christobal Ouch. I couldn't say about the high speed trains. My experience is that rail has generally been cheaper, but I know cheap airlines are more common here than back in North America, too. Basically, travel in N. America is expensive, in part because it's way bigger and everything is farther apart.

@ink_slinger My wife and I love the train. We want to do a cross-country trip on it and we'll have to save for a while for that to happen.That said, Toronto to Montreal is a pretty crowded trip. We've done it twice, once in the summer in a train car that had the heat on. We still liked it, though.

@GeoffWozniak Yeah, it's not bad for some of the more populated commuter lines. Having the heat on in the humid southern Ontario/Quebec summer sounds brutal.

@sconlan That's what I assumed, but wasn't sure.
