Image of the USS Enterprise near Earth with text: the year is 2387. Earth is a member of the Federation of Planets - but without Great Britain, which is still trying to leave the EU.User copperbadge comments: You know, this would explain why Picard, the most English person ever to walk aboard a starship, continues to claim he's French.

I'm voting green solely because they promise to build a vast rail network all across the country and trains are fucking cool, even if they are slightly impractical for a country as giant as Canada.

@webmind Passenger rail is somewhat impractical here because the country is so spread out that it would take multiple days for most trips, as opposed to a few hours on a plane. That would be OK if people had more vacation time, but most people only get 2-3 weeks off a year, so if you're visiting another province and using up a week just on travel time, that kind sucks. Similar issue for business travel. Plus it's super expensive, unlike Europe.

@webmind Like, it's actually significantly cheaper to fly, and air travel within Canada isn't exactly cheap, either.

@webmind I guess that's true. But trains there are cheap enough that I'd rather take a few hours on a train than squeeze into a JetBlue flight. I travelled almost exclusively by train when I was on that side of the Atlantic a few months back. It was great and I wish we had more of that in Canada.

@webmind Like, even if they're a little more expensive, trains are way more comfortable and leisurely. But here in Canada it's thousands of dollars for a trip that's only a few hundred by plane...and the plane takes 2 hours instead of 2 days. And that's a short trip, never mind going across several provinces.

Marvel/Disney should make a Hawkeye romcom. He goes off to fight with the Avengers. His wife has to deal with the school play. Rinse and repeat until he puts family first.

Because I'm a cheap-ass, I only use the ad-supported versions of streaming music services. Usually, the ads just sort of fade into the background and I tune them out. Just now, though, I heard an ad in French. Now, I don't speak French, but I was able to piece together that it was a Walmart commercial selling something BBQ-related. Was this poor geo-targeting or clever marketing, making it stand out and have just enough "Franglais" that even an anglophone like me could catch the gist of it?

"Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" was originally satire because that is, um, impossible. It's now stated without irony."Just a few bad apples," when referring to police, conveniently ignoring the full aphorism ials actually: One bad apple *spoils the bunch.*

I'm hard on watches, managing to break the crystal on my vintage Seiko 5 after just a few months. So I've decided to go for ultra cheap, but still cool, vintage Casio digital watches.Just received my W-800H. I also ordered a classic FW91. Pretty cool, yet simple and affordable, retro watches. They vaguely remind me of my first real watch, a Timex Ironman with "indiglo."

The Toronto Star was totally going to let me sign up for a physical newspaper subscription even though I'm in Edmonton. Were they just going to deliver StarMetro Edmonton to me and hope I wouldn't notice or do they actually deliver the Star outside of the GTA and in other provinces now?
