       do you ever get lost in thought about how magical and impossible-seeming LEDs are and then suddenly snap back to reality and realize that there are like 30 of them within your field of view right now

       @diodelass This is actually my biggest LED pet-peeve: they've become so ubiquitous that gadget makers use them for *everything*. Even things that'd don't particularly need an indicator light.Of course they never make it easy or possible to dim them so they don't illuminate the entire room they're placed in. I have so much masking tape in my room because of this...

       @erin yeah, bad LED design is frustrating. And they're so electrically nonlinear that dimming them is not at all easy, so they're often too bright.

       @diodelass @erin the worst offender in my house right now is a wall-plug oil diffuser to help my little one breath easier (uses Olbas Oil). It works really well except for the tiny blue LED that can be seen from four miles away. Why they thought that a blue light would make a good night light is beyond me.

       @carbontwelve @erin For harsh blue indicator lights that I still want to see but don't want to get blinded by, I like putting a little bit of glow-in-the-dark something (tape, paint, nail polish, whatever) over the emitter. Absorbs much of the blue and re-emits it as green, and also diffuses it a little.

       @diodelass @erin that's a better idea than what I did, I used black epoxy and gaffer-tape 😂

       @carbontwelve @diodelass I considered that, but sticky stuff drives me up a wall. And gaffer tape gets that way so quickly, at least for me.I can only assume the tape I did use will get manky at some point, but oh well. I didn't have anything else, and was desperate for sleep.
