My #Peertube instance has a massive transcoding backlog right now. It has been working nonstop for 14 hours now, and it will still take some time to finish. Some people were really busy with their videos today :)

Part of the reason is probably that the 500 MB daily upload limit wasn't applied to old accounts, and at least one of them uploaded a lot. So from now on, older accounts are also limited to 500 MB daily.

@nutomic Does it has more uploaders than viewers?

@nutomic It did let me upload a vid that was slightly over 500mb, does the instance do something to shrink it down? Or do I have to keep it below 500mb?

@geotechland You probably uploaded it before I changed the limit. Because of your account age, you had unlimited uploads until a few hours ago ;)

@nutomic gotcha, yeah I can reduce them to 500mb. Would you also consider running the instance as a nonprofit by letting users submit more than 500mb per day if they donated like lets say $5 per month on liberapay?

@geotechland Hmm that sounds like an interesting idea. Though it wouldn't scale well because I would have to check donation status for every account manually (and keep track if someone stops donating). And so far no one has asked about this. Do you need more upload space?

@geotechland Just changed the limit to 1 GB for you because you help as a mod, and because you only upload videos like once a week. Anyway I added this limit mainly to prevent a single user from taking up all the transcoding time on the server.

@nutomic sweet thanks! I will still try to keep the videos a respectable size despite the bigger limit :D

@geotechland As long as you don't upload while there are 10 transcoding jobs already running, it really doesn't matter ;)Maybe I will enable my Liberapay again at some point in the future. But when I had that running, I just received a few euros that I forwarded to other open source projects anyway.

@veer66 No, most accounts don't upload anything (or maybe I misunderstood your question).
