I'm puzzled by #Reddit scoring system. If I refrash this page 3 times in a minute it shows 3 different scores randomly chosed between 0, 2 and 3...Anyone knows what kind of algoritm they use?https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/9v5qst/1487081_undetectable_remote_arbitrary_code/

@Shamar Yeah, I always have the same problem.I think it is more of a problem regarding data consistency than the scoring algorithm itself. My guess is they probably store this in a kind of volatile distributed store and are merging/saving the score regularly in a colder storage.Pure speculation, @ me if you find the actual answer.

@Shamar You don't see the actual score; you see the score plus or minus a random fuzzing factor, which I think is intended to discourage gaming the system.

@gcupc @Shamar Aah, makes sense.Where did you learn this? Do you have a source?

@Ninjatrappeur @Shamar iirc reddit fuzzes the scoring so people dont game it, or something along those lines. it shows you +/- some standard deviation or percentage of your score depending on the subreddit.at least that's how i remember it working, idk if they changed it since havent been on reddit in ages.

@Ninjatrappeur @Shamar I don't have a source handy. I used to be a mod of a very small subreddit, and this was just the kind of thing that one absorbed via osmosis.

@gcupc @Ninjatrappeur Well, actually it looked random. But I would have never thought it WAS random... 🤣

@Ninjatrappeur @gcupc @Shamar I briefly read something long ago. Don't know if it's related to what you're talking about. https://redditblog.com/2009/10/15/reddits-new-comment-sorting-system/
