The lightbox feature in #brutaldon (an optional JavaScript enhancement that can be turned off) has been reworked to be less annoying, so you might want to turn it back on.Video support has also been improved, with videos playing inline or fullscreen. Video and image behavior in text browsers has not changed: both will be displayed as links to the source file, with alt text if provided.

Privacy Badger Is Changing to Protect You Better | Electronic Frontier Foundationhttps://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/10/privacy-badger-changing-protect-you-betterJFC, the web is so full of trackers and garbage that even trying to block trackers can uniquely fingerprint you for tracking.

@codesections I use mu4e when I need to search for mails, or when I'm only reading my main inbox, but it's frequently a pain to try to do anything else in it. It's worse for reading mailing lists than Gnus, and it's worse for dealing with html emails than my self-hosted webmail.

@codesections I use RainLoop, too. It's okay; sometimes you need to have webmail, this fallen world being what it is. I have run RoundCube, but not in a long time.

@sir Flutter web is the natural endpoint of viewing the browser as a client-side application runtime rather than a document rendering application.

@cosullivan See, I was thinking Brad, too, because of Brad and Janet. Chad has other connotations these days.

@cypnk Rendering the modern "web platform" has such specific constraints that most elements in the WHATWG "living standard" are defined in terms of pseudocode rather than semantics. And the pseudocode might as well be an abstraction of "whatever Chrome" does. The retreat from defining semantics is one of the big reasons a new web browser is impossible.

The Horror of Universal Paperclips and Space Enginehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oca8BnDMin4&t=748I wasn't sure whether to post this on here or ac.p. Existential horror is very on-brand for me here, but Universal Paperclips is actually an intensely political game. It's definitely worth one playthrough if you haven't played it. This is a good video about what's so horrifying about it and Space Engine, a game I haven't played.

@tk We were mutuals, but really barely acquaintances, despite living in the same state. I'm really hit hard by this. I used to commute to work by bike until I had to start dropping a kid off at school on the way, and I know this is a dangerous state to bike in because of driver's attitudes.
