@mntmn my suggestion: try without salt, if it washes like shit, try with saltyour water is hard but not *very* hard, i've had some experience with this but only when using salt, today i think i'd try the above

@mntmn btw I suggest not using "tablets" and squirting a small amount of dishwasher fluid into the compartment instead- cheaper- prevents overdosing- as someone who is disabled by fatigue: takes as much effort (probably less since there's less need to reorder & can be more easily order in bulk)most importantly- washes *way* better

@mntmn have only ever used "finish" (it's cheap enough and worked fine) so that's another thing I can't comment on

watching a video about private equity buying everything in pro audio (native instruments, etc)i think over a long enough timescale (over than five years) the only tools that remain are FOSS ones.it doesn't matter that you think they're janky compared to professional-grade ones (sometimes they are, sometimes they're actively better, though that's rare)because you won't have your professional-grade ones for very long, anyways.

i have understood for over a decade now that community led open source isn't a _development_ strategy or _maintenance_ strategy. it is a survival strategy in an adversarial environment dominated by capital. this is why, in long term, it is superior to any other type of software/hardware development

i think describing community led open source as _risk-management strategy_ would be my preferred way of describing it. yes, it has some other benefits and drawbacks. but it is the best way to counteract the risk of enclosure by capital.

this reason is why "I will release a non-trivial part of what I am developing on a daily basis [either as an employee, as a contractor, or in my free time] as open source" has been a non-negotiable point whenever I would work somewhere.the median lifespan of a small company doing something unique is under 5 years. i want my work to have use for longer than that. it takes too much of my life to produce it for me to ignore it

rigol pros: fully functional, native-speed remote desktop (scopetop?) in the browserrigol cons: whatever the fuck this shit is

i feel like my general feelings re: Rigol and people swearing by their Tek are best summarized with the old "rifle is fine" copypasta. as in: if you are skilled in the art you will get things done just as well with the rigol as you will with a tek in the same cateogry that's 10 times* the price. and if you aren't, goddess bless you either way also* referring me to US secondary markets is classist and i will not be elaborating on this observation

i've always believed this maxim on some level but seeing someone reverse engineer henceforth completely undocumented features of a 5 Gbps SERDES with my 100 MHz Rigol has really drilled it in(especially after she has done a thing previously described as "impossible due to jitter" by someone with a 10 GHz scope...)

@dngrs @mntmn 1.6 GHz bandwidth is a minimum per Nyquist, sampling rate generally has to be significantly higher than that (I'd expect 5-10 GHz to work?), plus you need a special probe just to capture the signals (cc @azonenberg); I would expect anything involving Crosslink to take a _massive_ amount of time
