       Masking tape + laser cutter stencil experiment complete.Too much bleed at the edges. Can it be improved by pressing the remaining tape down after uncovering the paintable shapes? Would it be better if I go easier on the paint? Use spray instead? (Though I'm attached to the brushing on.)

       @twilliability as a gut feeling:Stippling/spraying and then removing the tape rather quickly might help with bleeding.Alternatively: you can do an initial white coating and then paint on your color, like it's done when wall paintings have masking tape.
