       Made a garbage shell script to do a math. The math helps me curate an environment when I'm doing a ROMP. I love how I use computers. It's silly, it's simple, and I understand what I'm doing (more or less)Are there "better" ways to do what I did? I'm sure there are, I'm aware of at least some of the drawbacks of using what I used, how I used it. But it works for me, and that's what's important. :)

       @SocialGaff I love computers, sometimes. It took me til last year to realise that I *can* actually write shell scripts and other code, I just thought I couldn't because of reasons.I do also enjoy using tools designed for use at scale to run my silly little toy infrastructure though.Admittedly, I do get angry at The Computer sometimes. Just ask @betkabot how many times I've shouted a stream of expletives at the computer, then moments later happily said "oh i fixed it!"

       @reb @betkabot Oh, definitely. There was much frustration in the figuring this out. And I would have given up on it if it weren't for @RussSharek continuing to poke at things well past what I was willing to do.

       @SocialGaff @betkabot @RussSharek I sometimes wish I had someone to go to and say "help, i borked it!!" but i think i'm the only person i know who is this far down the particular rabbithole i have chosen to follow.The other week I found myself wedged in an uncomfortable position with my back against a radiator because I needed to poke at the local console of my truenas server, i was overheating from both the radiator and server farts, and i had two cats clambering over me. Somehow I have never felt so much more or so much less of a proper sysadmin.

       @reb @SocialGaff @betkabot Some of the first friends I made on fedi were computer touchers. They were equal parts helpful and opinionated, which comes with the territory of knowing too much about a thing.I've learned a little bit, and am happy to share if you get stuck on something I know. If nothing else, we can swear at it together.As for feeling 'real', I think what you described is absolutely legit admin work because it involved the back of a computer, pain, and jmpostor syndrome.
