KDE's Plasma Mobile is out to challenge spying, wall-gardened, proprietary mobile ecosystems.Help us break up the #mobile #phone #duopoly by donating to our #fundraiser: https://kde.org/fundraisers/yearend2025/

@kdeWhich devices are known to work well? Most I have looked up in the device list are listed as "... not boot".

@kde Is there any way to specifically donate to the Plasma-Mobile and Plasma-Bigscreen projects? The Bigscreen ecosystem especially could use a lot of love to help make sure there’s a great experience with a Jellyfin client, the Freetube app, and miscellaneous streaming services so that folks can get off data stealing devices like Roku

@sylvie I'm afraid not. Donations to KDE are to benefit all projects and reinforce everything across the board, even the stuff that we don't talk about often, like translators, sysadmins, framework developers, etc.Think about it like this: we could earmark donations exclusively, say, for Plasma Big Screen, but then would it be allowed to fund the ongoing development of KDE's onscreen keyboard? The onscreen keyboard is not technically part of Big Screen, but Big Screen will benefit from it.

@sylvie Some projects do run their own fundraisers. Krita and Kdenlive come to mind. But most don't. Devs want to dev and don't want to worry about the time-consuming logistics of raising funds. They trust that KDE will support them financially when they need it—which is what happens thanks to activities like this.

@kde @sylvie so make both options: topic relevant donation and generic donation. I think you are running into a problem as Firefox and Mozilla did: people asked for the ability to donate to Firefox and were told that they can donate only to the foundation. Many people decided not to.For the onscreen keyboard question, you could say that it falls under the bigscreen scope and clarify situations like this.

@GOKUSHRM Devs are using the OnePlus 6T as a reference device. The lagginess is because a lot of this software is alpha software and under heavy development. First we get stuff working, then we make it great.

@kde Speaking of navigation, #KDE 6 deleted a number of shortcuts including these:Walk though desktop listWalk though desktop list (Reverse)Walk though desktopsWalk though desktops (Reverse)So there is no more function that remembers the last desktop you were on and switches back to it, allowing users to toggle between two active desktops with ease.Someone should make a comprehensive list of Plasma 5 features that were deleted in Plasma 6.

@amackif @sylvie Most of the code in Plasma Mobile is identical to what's in Plasma desktop, Plasma Mobile relies heavily on KDE Frameworks, and, as we don't want people to just use it to only run proprietary software, it runs many previously developed apps that have been made convergent because what use is a platform without an ecosystem of tools?Hence, the border defining what is Plasma Mobile and what isn't is very blurry. This makes drawing the line extremely difficult. So we don't.

@kde @sylvie I think this is less of a problem, and even these topics can overlap. It doesn't matter what component, it's about the topic.I would prefer to fund infra (as in one of the previous comments), like sddm replacement, Vulkan... Not some apps like kdevelop.
