We are going to publish an app¹ that has nothing to do with Mastodon (this is not the first time we do that). We will need the help of volunteers for testing it. This is a really simple app for casting media from your device gallery to your TV. It doesn't rely on Chromecast but on the DLNA² protocol. We will publish it first on our custom FDroid repository³Don't hesitate to ask us more here.1- https://codeberg.org/tom79/CastLab2- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DLNA3- https://fdroid.fedilab.app/

@apps Sounds good! Can you cast from any other app, i.e. Jellyfin or similar? Can it be an alternative to Chromecast for old/dumb TVs?

@fedelloHere, the app will display your galleries and with a simple tap it will cast media (pictures, videos or sounds) in the TV that was selected with a player to control. This is really focused to be simple and doesn't do anything else.

@apps this is brilliant and fills a need, but I suspect my tv won't support dnla. are we talking about very modern tvs? will it stream to, say, a pc connected to a tv?

@apps Sounds interesting, at the moment I'm using BubbleUPnP for casting via DLNA.

@appsIs DLNA still a thing? Haven't used it in years... But a very focused app for it sounds good!
