I was in the post-Franco, #fascist hungover Spain of the 70’s, where municipal buildings and banks were still zealously guarded by machine-gun toting troops.A decade later in the 80’s, on a park bench in West Berlin, I was chided as an American who made ‘this mess we have now with all the damn Turks’ by a *literal* old #Nazi.And I wondered each time what it must have been like to live through a fascist takeover.I no longer wonder.
