@Em0nM4stodon @keepassxc @kajer Do you have any thoughts on Keepass vs. KeepassXC?

@FritzAdalis @Em0nM4stodon @keepassxc My understanding is XC is C++ based while the original is Mono/.NET based? XC is probably more suited for cross platform support.I'm sure someone more qualified can chip in here?

@kajer @FritzAdalis @Em0nM4stodon @keepassxc i wouldnt call myself qualified, but i believe on their page it specifies that the other version of keepass are no longer supported. XC is the only currently maintained and supported keepass, as i recall.

@keepassxc It is mentioned in your wiki: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc-browser/wiki/Troubleshooting-guide. So there's no reason to give me such a rude response.

@karhima There isn’t really anything we can do until this is fixed on Flatpak’s side. There’s a difference between KeePassXC running as Flatpak and the browser running as Flatpak.

@keepassxc @FritzAdalis @benda @kajer @Em0nM4stodon I've recently noticed that KeePassXC on my Ubuntu is rewriting the database after an entry was opened even though no changes were made.I haven't yet figured out if that is on closing KeePassXC or after closing the entry. Is this an auto-save option that can be selected or deselected I've missed.Though auto-save might be handy, as I'm not in control I think it's really annoying. It's writing locally with the local copy synchronised with >2

@keepassxc @FritzAdalis @benda @kajer @Em0nM4stodon 2) a NAS.As on Windooze we're using KeePass I've just declared that the master where the database on the Ubuntu is now only fetched from the NAS, not sybchronised back. This also as I have no idea if the default there is synchronising with the database file on disk, or just overwriting. The latter would have entries made on an other computer being lost. So, at the moment KeePassXC for me is untrusted.Originally I had KeePass on my Ubunty >3

@keepassxc @FritzAdalis @benda @kajer @Em0nM4stodon 3) laptop, but with the most recent update it disappeared and before that I had issues updating it as was not a fully supported package, as KeePassXC is.

@keepassxc @FritzAdalis @benda @kajer @Em0nM4stodon Is it correct that the database is updated automatically, thus written while no changes were made while information was only opened, and where I then had no influence in either saving or not saving the database.I did see the database being synchronised even though I hadn't clicked the safe button.

@keepassxc @FritzAdalis @benda @kajer @Em0nM4stodon And then, when and if the database is automatically saved, is the default append, or overwrite. In the latter case, data entered on an other computer to the same database might well be lost. Not having control is why for me it is now untrusted and why I made sure any written database stays local and will be replaced if changes are made on an other computer.

@AngelaScholderI'll let @keepassxc answer for XC, but I know Keepass (not XC) will combine any changes.

@FritzAdalis @keepassxc There by default you yourself have to choose to save the database, where then it either just saves the file, or tells you that changes were made and if you want to append/merge the files.Maybe I never found it as I haven't been looking for it, but I don't think the original KeePass program has an auto-save, definitely not active by default.

@AngelaScholder @FritzAdalis Go to application settings and disable auto saving and the associated sub settings. You probably expanded or collapsed a group which state is saved on locking the database. We merge changes from disk prior to saving and you can disable auto-merge as well. Do whatever you please.
