We've had Fosstodon limited for a long while, but we'll be moving to a full instance block, after learning that they're very happy to keep a fascist mod on board their team. @Curator While I totally see what you are trying to do and why, it seems to me that at one point you will be all alone and the federation of the verse will be nil.Just today, my favourite website tool moved to Fosstodon... 🤷♂️ I don't have a solution, but I'd highly prefer if I could make those decisions myself and could keep following the good people on whatever server and still see their posts, boosts etc.Not sure what to do there...

@Curator does "prevent any further connections" that mean it will be IMPOSSIBLE to follow someone on that instance, or just more difficult? I have had interactions with people on instances that i thought were blocked but perhaps those were merely "limited."

@thomashelzle our primary goal on this instance is to protect the marginalised people in our community and provide them a safe space to exist online without harassment. So far, we've blocked a whopping (sarcasm) 5-6% of the fediverse. We are very very far from isolating ourselves, but yes, the more instances tolerate fascists in their midst, the more we'll block. If you want complete control to make your own decisions, the best solution is hosting your own instance. That's not always feasible -

@thomashelzle - so an alternative is to move to an instance with less harsh moderation, one of the big ones like mastodon.social, but then of course you're also more likely to encounter bad behaviour, and your local feed won't be as art-based.OR, put pressure yourself on the instances we're blocking to maybe not tolerate fash. Tell them they're being shit and you're unhappy that they're getting themselves blocked widely because they refuse to eject a fascist. :)

@bimshwel impossible - when we block an instance, it blocks all communication between our instances. You can still follow people on limited instances, yeah, it'll just warn you first that they're on a limited instance. :)

Update:https://fosstodon.org/@joel/114400812548886935This is from a Fosstodon mod;'The moderator in question has abandoned his position and his account has been deleted from the server.'There has been no announcement from the official Fosstodon account, or from Mike (the admin in the thread linked above), so there's still a situation where a Fosstodon admin was defending the mod with posts like 'we don't have a Nazi moderator' in the face of one of their mods being pro-deportation and anti-LGBTQ+.

Another update: https://fosstodon.org/@mike/114417123689563022 So this is both admins of Fosstodon saying they're stepping down, but it's unclear yet whether they'll be closing the instance or handing over to another owner.Since the future of Fosstodon is currently undecided, and since there has still been zero accountability, remediation, or reflection, or any useful (for other instance mod teams) discussion about them having a fascist mod on their mod team, we're still planning to defederate.

@smookins We announce all big instance blocks when they cut off a lot of follower/following relationships between our instance and the one we're blocking. It's good transparency for our community, but also lets people both on our instance and on other instances know why we're taking the action that we are.
