@vicorva look sometimes the dictionary is wrong and sometimes there are weird prescriptivists who will not understand that, but it's okay. We are using language the way almost everyone else we know uses it, and the way almost everyone else understands it. Dictionary definition: irrelevant.

@welshpixie To me, several means 'more than one' with implicature that the exact # could be counted with a little effort, but it either doesn't matter to the hearer or the speaker is too lazy to check.So, it depends on the context & vague words are a researcher's delight!It reminded me of a CIA study that quantified how NATO officers interpret statements of uncertainty.
