recovery of the failed disk is 50% complete (~1tb imaged) with no errors.
The database for social.sdf.org was 85gb in size when the bios reported the
disk as unusable due to failure. This may explain performance issues the
instance had, though there is no log of the disk "going bad", and that was
only made known when that node was rebooted after 600+ days of up time.
While we have a replacement disk in place ready to copy the recovered data
to, what we may do now is just completely upgrade the instance to a new
server with a raid for better redundancy in a similar configuration to how
mastodon.sdf.org, social.sdfeu.org, toobnix.org, pixelfed.sdf.org and
lemmy.sdf.org are run.
A note to the users of social.sdf.org will be sent out to see if there is
support for this.
