(TXT) Encheiridion 16
What weighs down a man is not what has happened,
but his judgment about it.
Do not hesitate, however, to sympathize with him verbally.
I wonder if a Stoic could not sympathize with a man in truth, and
not just verbally. Isn't it true that the man suffers, even if
the suffering is derived from his judgment and not the external
occurance? We can sympathize with him that these events weigh
upon him even if we know that the reason they do so is his
judgements about them.
I wonder how well this project will go, and whether I will have
the perseverence to continue it (as well as whether I ought to).
We will see.
