In case anyone is unclear, since I hear he's also campaigning on this Linux age-gating trash:Bryan Lunduke is a fascist hatemonger. He represents the absolute worst in free software and I believe he should be ostracized from any and all parts of our community. He wants software freedom for himself and in the abstract but despises individuals expressing their freedom. He believes in a software freedom that is hollowed out and missing love.

@k3ym0 could it be done theoretically? Sure. But on systemd, that'd be a huge task to maintain. And the systemd folks say "oh, this PR is just an optional part of the user account system, we're just making a common API for anyone who wants to add it for any reason".They build the tracks and plead innocence as to what is in the trains.

@gnoll110 I know that's a common attitude but in effect, kids who are honest get harmed by their computer. The operating system of a computer should never be designed to purposely harm you. I don't think that's the case anymore with Linux if this nonsense becomes a reality.

I've reviewed vibe coded code and I've reviewed code written by a senior engineer following a similar process to @mttaggart. The code for the vibe-coded software was abysmal. It mostly didn't work.But an engineer following a solid process even with safeguards still came up with pretty bad code. It was wordy to the extreme and it didn't have near enough abstraction. The code it created functioned but it was unmaintainable. Here's all they'd have to do:* Create a chatbot in an app* Give users over 18 the normal chat bot* Give users under 18 a chat bot where they subtly give the user more manipulative responses.You can vibe code that now except right now, there's no to know with certainty how old the user is. With age verification, they know for sure who to target.

I went to my alma mater's CS advisory board meeting and that was some of the grimmest shit I've ever experienced.The Dean is talking about hiring a new CS professor who knows "agentic" AI. There are business IT leaders talking about how code review isn't a skill grads will need. The Dean has no clue how they will cover the cost once token-based billing is the norm. And students are basically not learning because all they use are LLMs.

@ariadne I don't present quite that much in everyday life. But thank you 🙂But this is online in a place that I definitely do present more femme. I made a comment, was almost instantly banned as a man and then when I appealed because it was super insulting and their rules explicit say "trans women are women" and "femme enbies are welcome", they said they don't allow "AMAB non-binary people"Like damn, sorry that I don't meet your standards.
