       @distractal @whitequark was about to leave the same comment. And anecdotally: I've got "brain damage" from using advanced/modern AI models. It's been months since I've earnestly tried them "to know your enemy", and I still crave them, despite knowing that they'll fuck me up (and the result will be bad, too). I now recommend against self-experiments with information hazards

       The book shop I use offers a similar old (slightly newer) manga on Mac - called すがやみつる マンガMAC入門 －これならわかる－, where a young office worker is tasked to do some minimal computing, but is puzzled by a new beast: Mac. "Boss, how do I do the job, I don't understand neither DOS nor BASIC?!" And the boss says "No need to fret".And so instead of writing a small program in BASIC, the boss buys Mac Writer II and all sorts of software. :>

       Have you ever wondered why hatching in manga looks the way it does? I'm sure many of manga aficionados knew about the "tone" that is applied to manga, but I never could figure out how it creates such beautiful, kaleidoscope-like effects...Until I read a book on how manga is made!Turns out artists just take two or three translucent pages with patterns, and overlay them. I tried to simulate the effect, and realised it really does work wonders. If you try it yourself, you might even notice the (intentional?) artifacts caused by the tone layers ending abruptly.Incidentally, one can't make tone paper at home by simply printing tones on a regular paper. I know inkjet printers can print on special translucent plastic sheets ("transparent paper"), but I don't think laser printers can do that.Edit: yes they can, I used one a long time ago and forgot lol T_TI wonder why I didn't see this technique used around here.

       I wanna say "told you so" to those who told me a few months ago "it won't happen".In the last few months I've been thinking about computers and such, and I thought that maybe I want my computers and software to be pre-slop, and I'll just keep them offline. I probably will keep a modern device or two, however slopified it will be, to keep the access to the bank apps and government portals, in case these will be locked down to modern Chromium versions, but that might be about it.And yes, probably OpenBSD or NetBSD as a networked computer (unless these slopify as well).That's a despair in me talking, of course.
