       @azonenberg @Lunaphied Oh, I misunderstood. I thought the challenge was being given a physical, populated board and having to diagnose the issue from that alone. Having the schematic makes a lot more sense, and more tractable lol

       @azonenberg On the chance that you might be familiar with the whole process, do papers sent for peer-review also get sent to a copyeditor or similar, in addition to subject matter experts? I've always wondered whether journals will first send a candidate paper to someone that does basic validation (eg grammar, sensible diagrams, etc) or if they are just dispatching it as-is to the reviewers and hope they'll catch both the small and large issues.

       @azonenberg Up until early adulthood, I incorrectly referred to the wind chill effect as the "windshield effect", premised on (very wrong) assumption that automobile windshields would cool below ambient when driving in the cold.I went uncorrected until a second-year physics textbook spelled out the phenomenon and its application for perceived temperature. I was so close, yet so far.

       @azonenberg Surely it's when someone is storing passwords in plaintext, such that it's noticeable if the password list contains the now-famous one from XKCD. I hope to never come across such an affront to security best-practices in my lifetime.

       @azonenberg I test all the smoke alarms at the start of each month, reaching and pressing the button on each using a sabre I received as a gift. This allows me to justify keeping an otherwise fairly pointless gift.I suppose they're all connected together and ring all at once, so I could press just one and check that they all ring. But this ritual has been in place for years now.
